Transforming Public Health

Each year, the 11th grade at the School for Democracy and Leadership in East Flatbush, Brooklyn creates a “Change Project.” In 2009, the goal of the project was to increase awareness about public health issues facing the community.

Through a collaborative design process, the contributions of teachers Barbara Condliffe, John Gibilaro, and Max Von Euw, and the work of some unusually dedicated students, we created 5 large-scale cardboard sculptures that sparked dialogue about health issues including teen pregnancy, drugs, homicide, child abuse, and mental illness.
