Industrial Revolution

This project, created in collaboration with Groundswell Community Mural Project, integrated visual art into the social studies curriculum at the Brooklyn High School of the Arts.

What were the benefits and drawbacks of the Industrial Revolution? Students tackled this question by imagining historically-based characters that would have held a broad range of opinions about industrialization. The diverse viewpoints of coal miners, capitalists, inventors, and even a rat were put into dialogue when students performed skits based on the experiences of their characters.
